Direct Service Projects
Green Earth, Inc.
Mission: To preserve natural areas for the benefit of the people of Carbondale, IL and to make these areas available for education and non-consumptive recreational pursuits.
Project Duties: Project work will involve either mainenance and/or improvements to hiking trails or habitat improvement work (e.g., removing invasive plants). Both types of projects occur outdoors within nature preserves. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and long sleeves for working within the woodland and must wear closed toe shoes. Tools, gloves, bug spray, water, and snacks will be provided.
For Kids' Sake
Mission: For Kids' Sake mission is to create a comprehensive international fundraising program to support service projects that safeguard the education and well-being of thousands of students and orphans in Bangladesh.
Project Duties: Volunteers will help prepare for the For Kid's Sake Art Auction. Projects include creating decorations, hanging flyers, tabling, and managing framing inventory.
Touch of Nature
Mission: The mission of Touch of Nature Environmental Center is to enhance learning, promote professional development, encourage personal and interpersonal development, and increase environmental awareness.
Project Duties: Camp clean up and preparation and trail building. Volunteers will pick up trash and debris around the two camps as well as weather protect some of the outdoor wood structures. Volunteers will also work with staff to clean and build trails.
Keep Carbondale Beautiful
Mission: Keep Carbondale Beautiful initiates, plans, and directs cooperative efforts in litter control, recycling, community beautification, and environmental education.
Project Duties: City-wide cleanup. Volunteers will be assinged to locations across Carbondale to collect litter and recyclables. Bags and gloves will be provided.
Carbondale Main Street
Mission: To enhance and promote the economic and social vitality of Carbondale's Main Street district through the ongoing cultivation of unique and quality atmosphere that attracts businesses and shoppers to the downtown.
Project Duties: Large clean-up and planting in downtown Carbondale. Bags and gloves will be provided.
St. Francis CARE Animal Shelter
Mission: We provide shelter and veterinary care to lost, unwanted and abandoned animals until they can be placed in a kind and loving home where they will be cared for in a safe and humane environment for the rest of their natural lives. We also seek to improve the community as a whole by educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering in order to prevent undesired breeding and minimize the need for euthanasia, and by promoting the adoption of animals as pets from pounds, shelters and animal rescue groups rather than supporting inhumane puppy and kitten mills, which contribute to the problem of overpopulation of domestic animals.
Project Duties: Volunteers will clean the grounds and cages.
Mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Project Duties: Volunteers will be stationed in Carbondale to hand out information about Alzheimer's disease in order to increase awareness.
Lewis Elementary School
Mission: To prepare students to live harmoniously, cooperatively, and productively in a global community.

Humane Society of Southern Illinois
Mission: To provide humane care and treatment for all creatures needing protection in the area; to rescue, provide shleter, care for creatures in distress, to seek to return lost creatures to their rightful owners when possible.
Project Duties: Cleaning out taxis, trimming trees along the driveway, planting flowers, laying mulch, scooping/cleaning yard, sorting newspapers, painting cat adoption room.
SIU Student Sustainable Farms
Mission: To give students the chance to grow fresh, healthy food and conduct research with sustainable and organic farming methods.
Project Duties: Spring planting and bed preparation; washing seed trays, planting vegetables, mulching, weeding, hoeing, building trellis, turning and harvesting compost.
Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale
Mission: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, responsible, and productive citizens.
Project Duties: Painting mural in gymnasium, library organization, touch-up painting.
The Women's Center, Inc.
Mission: To end domestic violence and sexual assault against adults, teens, and children in southern Illinois and to assist survivors of these crimes and their non-offending significant others.
Project Duties: Deep clean the shlter kitchen.
Indirect Service Projects
Project Duties: Volunteers will assemble rice packets to be distributed in the Wesley Foundation Food Pantry.
American Red Cross
Mission: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Project Duties: Assist in the unloading, set up, check in, and tear down of the blood drive.
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church
Project Duties: Making plastic sleeping mats which wll be given to the homeless.
Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale
Mission: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, reponsible, and productive citizens.
Project Duties: Making fleece blankets for elderly in nursing homes.

Mission: To end domestic violence and sexual assault against adults, teens, and children in southern Illinois and to assit survivors of these crimes and their non-offending significant others.
Project Duties: Create Affirmation Tree and leaves out of construction paper; write inspirational messages on the leaves.
Carbondale Police Department
Mission: To serve the community and help create a safer environment through programs, education, and prevention awareness.
Project Duties: Write thank you cards and prepare a sack of snacks for area fire fighters.
Gaia House/University Interfaith Center
Mission: Provide meeting and activity space for people and groups with an assortment of religious and social viewpoints.
